FYI - Please let us know if you need help on this, the process should be automatic, though you may need to have an administrator sign on to make it work the first time... Nothing much will change with the forms, etc., but you will be able to use Windows 7 or Vista.

Subject: FW: Upgrading Oracle Forms Application JRE (formerly JInitiator), Thursday July 28th
Good afternoon everyone,
Please see below on the Oracle Forms upgrade this Thursday.
Please pass this along to all of your Oracle users. The URL for Oracle will not change, but the user may be prompted to install the latest version of Java. If they have problems getting Java to install we may need to get further instructions from OTIS.
Several of us tested these forms in Beta and they worked fine - some of us were prompted to update our Java. It sounds like, if you do have to have the Java update, you'll need to have an administrator (someone from OTIS Service Desk) log on to install it.
Let me know if you have any problems - especially after Thursday.
Thanks,
Steve

The Oracle Forms Upgrade is scheduled for Thursday July 28 starting at 6:00 p.m. The upgrade will take no more than 15 to 30 minutes. Please remind county and internal staff of this upgrade. The URL will not change. Sun JRE (Sun Java 1.6.0_26) must be installed in order to log-in.
Thank you,
Service Desk
An update to the Oracle Forms environment has been scheduled. This update will retire the use of Oracle JInitiator. We are requesting your assistance in notifying the delegated counties. A letter of explanation and instructions for installing the new Sun JRE (Sun Java 1.6.0_26) are attached. Please send an e-mail to all delegated counties using language from the attached letter of explanation informing them of the upcoming change.
Installation
As in previous upgrades, the new JRE version automatically downloads if it has not been previously installed. If the user of the PC does not have administrator rights it will not install
* Note: Windows 7, Vista, and XP, require the user to have Administrator permissions on the local workstation to install the JRE.
* Note: The new Oracle Forms version is not currently certified with Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 or with 64-bit browsers. OTIS will not be testing Oracle Forms with IE 9.0.
* Note: Multiple versions can reside on a PC without causing problems.
Troubleshooting
The Sun JRE Doesn't Auto-download:
If the JRE does not automatically download, install the software by logging in as the administrator of the PC.
The Sun JRE Auto-Downloads, but the logon box doesn't appear:
If the logon box doesn't appear then close out all sessions of Internet Explorer and then try to access the Internet address again. If it still doesn't work then try rebooting the PC.
The Sun JRE Auto-Downloads and appears to open, but the screen is surrounded by a dotted line and the logon box doesn't appear:
If the logon box doesn't appear, when the mouse hovers over the dotted region a popup window will appear stating that the user needs to click the region in order to activate the object. Click once on the dotted region to activate it, the Forms application will run as it has in the past.
