Good article. Thanks Chris,

I believe it IS "too late to try and put the genie back in the bottle" without immediate help from Big Pharma. Notice the article states, "According to a Mayo Clinic study released in June, nearly 70 percent of Americans take one prescription drug, up from 48 percent in 2007-2008." This in-of-itself is self-incriminating if the numbers are valid, but was duly noted, I believe by several Drs. on this listserve many yrs ago.

Has anyone heard any inside movements (no pun intended) out of EPA regarding their "Health Services Industry Detailed Study" (9/09) @ http://water.epa.gov/scitech/wastetech/guide/unusedpharms_index.cfm for the possibility of proposing Fed regs? It wasn't listed in their latest Effluent Guidelines [304(m)] Plan @ http://water.epa.gov/scitech/wastetech/guide/304m/index.cfm .

Full report to be out in January

This new study adds to the body of evidence that drugs are being found in our drinking water. While it is assumed that some amount of drugs in water may be a a result of excretion it can also be assumed that there are number of people that continue to dispose of drugs by flushing.

We can and should be doing more to educate people about the importance or proper disposal of unused/unwanted drugs
