Georgia URISA is pleased to announce its next monthly luncheon, scheduled on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 from 11:30AM to 1:30PM. This event is hosted by City of Smyrna., and will be held at their office facility located at 200 Village Green Cir Smyrna, GA 30080.
Topic: GISP Certification
Speaker: Tripp Corbin, CFM, GISP
GIS Professional (GISP) Certification: Why and How The GIS Certified Professional or GISP should be a goal of all GIS Professionals. This certification, from the GIS Certification Institute, sets GIS as true professional alongside other Geospatial professions such as Planners, Surveyors and Engineers. This presentation will discuss the reasons and benefits to becoming a GISP, how to get your GISP certification, possible changes to the GISP certification process in the future and the impact of the new Esri Technical Certification on GISP certification.
Tripp Corbin is the Vice President of GIS and IT services for Keck & Wood, Inc. He has over 20 years of surveying, mapping and GIS related experience. Most of his experience has been providing services to small and mid-sized City and County Governments throughout the Southeast. During his career, Tripp has used an array of software including AutoCAD, Microstation, ArcView, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server, MapGuide and more. He is recognized as an expert on CAD and GIS integration. The “Using AutoCAD Data in ArcGIS” course, which he co-authored, has been widely used here in the US and Internationally.
Tripp has earned a large number of certifications including GISP, CFM, CTT+, and most recently Esri ArcGIS Desktop Certified Associate. Tripp is a past President of Georgia URISA and is the current chair of the URISA International Chapter Relations Committee. He is also a member of the GISP Application Review committee. Other contributions Tripp has made to the GIS Profession include helping to draft the new Geospatial Technology Competency Model that was adopted by the US Department of Labor, presenting at various conferences and workshops around the US, and providing help to other GIS Professionals around the world on various blogs, lists and forums.
Monthly luncheons are held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month. They are intended to provide educational and networking opportunities, along with a sensible meal. Most luncheons are orchestrated according to the following agenda:

You can earn 2 hours towards a certification by attending this event.
Member Cost – Early Registration (by February 4): $15.00
Non-Member Cost – Early Registration (by February 4): $18.00
Member/Non-Member – Late Registration (after February 4): $20.00
Please Note: You can pay for this event securely online with your credit card when you submit your RSVP.

To register for the Luncheon go to www.gaurisa.org. Members enter email address at the bottom of page and click register. Non-Member please complete the registration form at the bottom of the event page.
Please complete your RSVP registration by the end of the day on the Friday preceding the meeting. This allows time so that nametags can be prepared and we have an accurate headcount for food. If you have not registered by the deadline of Friday, and still attend the meeting, please display professional courtesy in allowing those who registered to prepare their food first. Thank you.
