POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Bureau of State Owned Lands Inventory seeks a GIS/AutoCad mapping technician to work 40 hours per week. The job involves mapping land parcels to be included in the Florida State Owned Lands and Records System GIS.





DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Operates a PC based GIS/CAD workstation.  Researches land records to determine record ownership.  Interprets original survey notes for the purpose of plotting parcel boundaries.  Uses coordinate geometry to calculate the area of land parcels.



Reduces survey notes and plots and checks, center lines and right-of-way lines; computes horizontal curves; plots township and section lines as described in the public land survey system, and plots parcels by aliquot part.  Reviews title evidence, interprets legal descriptions of real property and plots parcel boundary lines on computer-generated maps.



Prepares and maintains maps and charts indicting the locations or proposed locations of State land parcels.  Assists in the maintenance of a GIS database.  Maintains accurate production and tracking files.  Researches and maps subdivision boundaries that are required to locate State land parcels.  Utilizes desktop GIS to plot, view and analyze cadastral data.



Uses spreadsheet and database applications to generate reports.  Designs and plots CAD and GIS generated maps, reports and other graphics for display.





REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of: the concepts, terminology, principles, and analytical techniques of Land Surveying, and Land Records Research; Geographic information Systems.  Skill in: the use of personal computers, scanners, printers and plotters.  Ability to: analyze and interpret land survey data; solve problems related to land survey data; perform technical office surveying tasks; apply Geographic Information System analysis and editing techniques; communicate technical information verbally and in writing; plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.



PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Experience reducing and compiling land survey data from field notes.  Experience using ESRI ArcGIS and AutoCAD for plotting, mapping and displaying of land boundary parcels.  Experience researching land records including property appraiser tax parcel data.  Experience reading, interpreting and plotting land descriptions from deeds.
