Environmental Specialist I in the Domestic Wastewater Program

DESCRIPTION
This is independent professional environmental work inspecting domestic wastewater treatment facilities to determine compliance with State standards, identifying violators, initiating corrective enforcement actions.
Initiates enforcement actions by drafting warning letters, notices of violation, consent orders and case reports and takes appropriate action to bring facilities into compliance.
Inspects domestic wastewater pollution sources for compliance with regulations and prepares written reports of findings.  Prepares and writes non-compliance letters and other compliance correspondence.
Meets with engineers, municipal officials, facility owners and operators to negotiate design changes, environmental controls, corrective actions and settlement of violations.
Ensures that the data entry corresponding to all the projects assigned and or requested is entered into the Department's databases timely and appropriately, including the Oculus database, consistent with the Southwest District Water Facility Standard Operating Procedures.
Investigates complaints and initiates appropriate follow-up activities.
Represents the Department at public meetings and hearings and makes presentations to public groups on compliance/enforcement activities and interfaces with the media.  Evaluates laboratory tests and recommends appropriate actions.
Performs related work as required.

Preferred:
Knowledge of the terminology, principles and analytical techniques of the physical or natural sciences.
A Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, chemistry, or environmental science is preferred.
Regulatory wastewater experience is preferred.
